Was this past  Thursday, that defense attorney Miguel Lorne, who represents Shawn “Storm” Campbell, Vybz Kartel‘s artist and protege, started making his closing statement, pouring cold water on the prosecution’s case against his client Shawn Campbell to the 11-member jury. Lorne made his closing arguments. He told the jury that lead prosecutor Jeremy Taylor is trying to cloud their judgement with a case that has far too many evidence of corruption.

Vybz Kartel, real name Adidja Palmer, Shawn “Storm” Campbell, Kahira Jones, André St John, and Shane Williams are on trial for the alleged murder of their former associate Clive “Lizard” Williams.

The Crown says Williams was beaten to death by the accused men on August 16, 2011 at a house in Havendale. His was killed over two missing guns belonging to the former Portmore Empire General.

Defence attorney Pierre Rogers, continued his address to jurors in the Vybz Kartel murder trial on Tuesday telling the 11-member panel that the police acted maliciously in creating a message about chopping up Clive ‘Lizard’ Williams.

“It shows malicious intent on the part of the police,” Rogers said. “The police created this with one aim in mind, one aim. This is malicious.”

Rogers described how the police operated in the case describing as “nastiness” adding that the prosecution has failed to address critical inconsistencies in the case.

“It disappoints me and I suspect that it disappoints you,” he said. “If this is not a set-up then what is? If this is not a conspiracy, what is?“Why is the Crown making castles in the sky and asking you to join him up there? Rogers told the jurors.

In giving his final argument  Lorne told the jurors “The prosecution is clutching at straws”.

“Is there anything to show that Campbell ordered somebody to travel with him”? Lorne questioned. “Was there a plan”? If the prosecution has failed to show that plan, then their case has fallen down and they are relying on circumstantial evidence,” Lorne declared.

Campbell, also known as ‘Shawn Storm’, is alleged to have transported murder victim Clive ‘Lizard’ Williams to Kartel’s Havendale house on the day he was killed.

The prosecution had argued that although Campbell was not at the house at the time of the murder, he was aware of the plot to kill the men.

Lorne began his presentation on Friday. Defence attorneys Pierre Rodgers, Everton Dewar and Tamika Harris are expected to present their closing arguments before the case is handed over to the jurors by president Judge Justice Lennox Campbell.

Vybz Kartel and his four co-accused will know their fate next week.

Justice Lennox Campbell had estimated that the case would end this week but today some of the jurors said they will only be available in the afternoon tomorrow and Thursday. When the trial resumes tomorrow afternoon defense lawyer Tamika Harris will begin to address the jury and after that the judge will begin his summation to the jury.
