Why Billboard Crowned Sean Paul King Of Dancehall

who is the king of dancehall music 2016why sean paul is considered king of dancehall

There is been a lot of chatting in the reggae dancehall community when Billboard crowned Sean Paul the King of Dancehall, few weeks ago.

Patricia Meschino, who is a contributing writer to Billboard, mostly on reggae and dancehall topics , sat down with Winford Williams of  the popular Jamaican nationally syndicate Onstage TV Show, and explained why Sean Paul is the king of the dominant genre of music in the Caribbean.

While Dancehall Fans are still divided on who is The Dancehall King, Miss Meschino, in the interview posted below, made a point that Billboard crown Sean Pau King of Dancehall, based on sales of the music, not on popularity, creativity and influenced in Jamaica.

“It’s purely based on numbers, its nothing about artists creativity or anyone perception as an album being the best or better than the other nine so its based on numbers.”

WINFORD WILLIAMS STEPPED IN SAYING

“OF COURSE SEAN PAUL IS CHAMPION IN SALES THEY SHOULD HAVE EXPLAINED THAT, BECAUSE HERE IN JAMAICA WHEN IT COMES TO CREATIVITY, INFLUENCE, TALENT THERE’S ANOTHER PERCEPTION.”

Meschino explains how the same result and same controversy happened in December when Joss Stone Album ranked as Top selling in reggae dancehall music purely based again on market sales and thousands of purchases for a music album that fits that category but does not really represents it.
