Dancehall and Reggae Community is still in shock at the news that VP Records Executive, Joel Chin, 35 years old, Producer and Director of Artists for VP was shot and killed outside his home in Stone Hill, St Andrew Jamaica tuesday night.
VP Records was founded in Kingston Jamaica in 1959 by Vincent and Patricia Chin, their son, Clive Chin, Joel‘s father, worked with Black Uhuru and Augustus Pablo.
Joel grew up in music and spent his whole life for it, bringing Reggae to the mainstream and signing some of the biggest names during the 90s. News are that he was approached by gunmen right in front of his house, when he exited his vehicle and he was shot several times.
Residents called the police alarmed by the loud explosions and Chin was transported to the hospital but he was pronounced dead on arrival.
Chin is the grandson of VP Records founder, Vincent Chin and nephew of Chris and Randy Chin, owners of the label.
He moved to Jamaica 2 years ago from Nyc to be more into productions and songwriting and he just recently had a daughter.
Following his family tradition and footsteps Joel Chin became heavly involved with the Jamaican music industry helping launching the careers of many big names in Dancehall & Reggae like T.O.K , Wayne Wonder, Sizzla, Beenie Man ,Etana and many many others.
He also wrote so many songs for many different reggae dancehall artists and he was also was behind the production of Reggae Gold album series from VP Records, a very popular reggae compilation that boasts the biggest hits and best charts topping singles of the year.
