The whole Dancehall movement is in shock after Jamaican dancehall star Vybz Kartel’s arrest and the charges against him.
Adidja Palmer, aka Vybz Kartel – The Dancehall World Boss has now been behind bars since last Friday.
Kartel’s case has been put off again today for the second consecutive day, as the case file is still incomplete.
What was looking like something simple (charges for ganja possession) turned quickly in something else. It’s really hard to believe that Vybz Kartel or anybody would kill or conspire to kill somebody and then park a partially burnt body in his own backyard…, come on…for real…
Vybz Kartel, real name Adidja Azim Palmer, has too much to loose, from his Teacha’s Pet TV Show, to his own imprinting the Portmore Empire, the music label and camp Vybz Kartel started in 2007.
Members of the group currently are:Vybz Kartel, Shawn Storm, Popcaan,
Tommy Lee, Gaza Maxwell, Gaza Indu, Sheba, and Gaza Slim, aka Vanessa Bling.
Vanessa Bling, was shocked and surprised by the news of Teacha’s arrest. Other females part of the Empire, like Sheba and Gaza Indu, are both sad over Vybz Kartel‘s current troubles.
Also Empire’s artist Popcaan was very surprised. He said he was hurt by the news as Vybz Kartel is someone that a lot of persons look up to. Popcaan said that since Kartel’s arrest and charges he and the other members of the Portmore Empire are “still a family same way.”
Popcaan and Gaza Slim agreed that the Empire will continue.
Gaza Slim said,
“Empire and Gaza will still go on.”
Popcaan added,
“Empire will always continue, me deh yah being strong, we deh yah for a purpose same way and we gonna continue doing what we do same way and hope fi di best.”
Here some first reactions to Vybz Kartel’s arrest and the charges against him from other Dancehall Artists & community that shared their feelings on Twitter and Facebook.
A lot of artists have already showed solidarity with the Teacha. Starting from Bounty Killer himself, to Mavado,Popcaan, Beenie Man, Kiprich, Matterhorn and the list goes on. They are all hoping for a better turn of events for Addi.
