The wait should be over in a couple of days, when the UK Privy Council, also known as UK Supreme Court, will make a final ruling in the appeal seeking to overturn the murder conviction of incarcerated Dancehall deejays Vybz Kartel and Shawn Storm along with Kahira Jones and Andre St John.
The Privy Council’s decision will come just over a month passed after the court proceedings closed their debate and after specific details regarding the case were heard in the United Kingdom on February 14 and 15. It was expected that the final decision could take up to 12 weeks.
However, the UK Privy Council will deliver its highly anticipated judgment at 11am (Jamaican time) on Thursday, March 14.
Vybz Kartel and his co-defendants are seeking to have their life sentences overturned, on the basis that the trial in the Kingston Home Circuit Court was tampered with.
Among the claims are that crucial cell phone evidence was improperly obtained and also allegations of a juror seeking to bribe others by offering J$500,000 for a particular outcome.
Vybz Kartel’s lawyers have been expressing optimistic views about the outcome, and their are not too incline to another trial, a re-trial in Jamaica, aspecting the deejay to be released after all these years behind bars and with the shadows of another trial in the Jamaican courts looming in the backgorund.
This will be the final shot for the incarcerated Jamaican superstars and his co-accused to regain their freedom, overwriting the verdict of 32 years behind bars before parole.
