Fans of iconic Jamaican artist Buju Banton are very disappointed today, with many commenting on the latest events that “they made up a man destiny in a less than 60 minutes, this morning in Tampa”.

Buju Banton’s trial started at 8.46 and was over real quick before 10 o’clock in the morning. Sad news. Reggae artist Buju Banton was today sentenced to 10 years in jail by a court in Tampa, Florida.

Reggae artist Buju Banton will be, for now, incarcerated at the FCI prison facility in Miami. He was also ordered to serve five years of probation following his release from prison.

Mark Myrie – Buju’s real name – was found guiltyithis past February of conspiring to negotiate a drug deal in a police controlled warehouse in Florida. Even if the charge of possession of a firearm was dropped earlier the artist has been slapped with a 10 years heavy sentence just for maybe thinking about doing something that really never happened and despite his lawyers, his family, his fans have applied for some clemency and justice they still gave him 10 years behind bars in an American prison.

Banton accepted the verdict calm and resigned to his fate. His attorney, Mark Antony Myrie announced he is going to appeal the guilty verdict and will work forward securing the artist ‘s release.

The courthouse was packed with members of Buju’s family, some artists and celebrities, personal Buju’s friends like Wayne Wonder, his manager Traci McGregor, his good friend Gramps Morgan, Delly Ranks, fans, more friends,  and reporters.

When the verdict was announced many cried, a lot of tears, sadness, incredulity. The whole thing lasted less than an hour. The US government built the case around wiretap and video evidences.

The crime  was never really committed. It was all a set up to begin with since the drug dealers were cops in the first place.

Not just they are taking 10 years of his life, they are also taking his music away. He won’t be allowed to record  music despite music programs allowing inmates to practice using instruments, recording instruments are not allowed in the Miami facility.
