According to the United States Federal Bureau of Prisons website, Buju Banton’s release date won’t be until February 2019, despite rumors that he would only serve six years when time served and good behavior were taken into account.
That is almost a decade in jail without permission of recording music. What a bitter destiny for one of the biggest, loved and respect Jamaican reggae artist.
Should he violate the rules, Buju’s sentence may be extended. Buju, real name Mark Myrie, has yet to officially begin serving his time. According to the prison bureau website, he is listed as in transit as he is expected to be sent to a federal prison in Mississippi.
His lawyer, David Oscar Markus is not backing up and will appeal the sentence. Stay strong Buju!
