It seems like the long-standing beef between Jamaican dancehall stars Vybz Kartel and Popcaan it’s finally over!

Jamaican dancehall superstars Vybz Kartel, real name Adidja Palmer, and Popcaan, real name Andre Sutherland, have re-united for a new “shocking” collaboration, after more than a decade of silence between them.

The Portmore Empire General and his youngest student have released a music single, an impactful and thought-provoking song titled “Dull Colour”, that follows up their “Clarks” anthem, and several others, like “We Never Fear Dem”,”Hot Grabba”, just to mention a few, all released back in 2010.

Vybz Kartel and Popcaan’s partnership goes back to way before the Unruly sing-jay was famous. Was Vybz Kartel that signed him to his Portmore Empire and nurtured his talent since Poppi was very young. The two spent countless hours in the recording studio together, penning songs and perfecting the young Gaza student lyrics and delivery.

Following Vybz Kartel’s arrest back in 2011, Popcaan signed a new contract while still under contract with Kartel and his Portmore Empire imprinting and the move was not welcome by Kartel and his team.

But more than 10 years went by since then and later on was Kartel, from prison, that disbanded the Gaza Camp letting everybody free to go and pursue a solo career. During the years Kartel released several statements from prison regarding his arrest, and loyalty issues inside the Gaza camp and strong rumors were circulating about Kartel not being happy with Popcaan lack of contact with his mentor.

While Kartel has been behind bars Popcaan’s career skyrocketed making him one of the most popular dancehall artists outside Jamaica, with already several albums under his belt and a contract with Drake’s OVOSound.

Beside the controversy Popcaan never stopped saying Gaza and bigging up Vybz Kartel for discovering him and launching his musical career, fast forward 11 years and something later and these two aces are re-united on a new song.

Vybz Kartel and Popcaan “Dull Colour” is a slow tempo soul-stirring track that digs into the harsh realities of socio-economic injustice in Jamaica, putting the spot light on the struggles of poor people.

“Dull Colour” opens a window into the stark contrasts of life in Jamaica in which Popcaan‘s emotive vocals resonate throughout the chorus, lamenting the universal desire to escape the clutches of poverty: “Ahh ahh ahh nobody don’t waan live poor / Ahh ahh ahh nobody don’t waan live poor.”

As the verses unfold, both Kartel and Popcaan tackle on different topics:  gun violence, government involvement in criminal activities, police brutality are all laid bare on the lyrical canvas. The artists use their lyrical skills to paint a raw picture of the systemic struggles faced by the ghetto youth,  reminding the listeners of the social and economic imbalances that persist. This is another good song with social commentary!

“Dull Colour” may not boast the beats of a catchy dancehall anthem, but its simplicity and honesty scores mad points with the listeners! Instead of chasing mainstream trends, Kartel and Popcaan have chosen to craft a message-driven track that goes beyond entertainment, using their platform to amplify the voices of the marginalized and disheartened.

The collaboration between Vybz Kartel and Popcaan is not only an epic musical event, but it also serves as a testament to the potential for redemption and unity. Their decision to set aside past grievances and come together to address pressing issues signifies a collective responsibility that transcends the boundaries of stardom.

As “Dull Colour” reverberates through the airwaves, it resonates with listeners, prompting them to reflect on the enduring struggle for social justice and equality. In a world often dominated by flashy superficiality, Vybz Kartel and Popcaan have artfully intertwined their talents to create a powerful anthem for change, igniting hope and encouraging dialogue for a brighter future.

Vybz Kartel and Popcaan’s relationship has had its ups and downs, and many fans questioned if they would ever hear these two on a track together again, and with much to their delight, the Gaza General and former Gaza member have made it happen.

“Dull Colour ” is a step in the right direction for dancehall, as many artists have been championing unity in the community, and if this song was written and recorded in the current days or long time ago it does not really matter.
