Last week International superstar Mavado performed for his first time in Africa, at Accra Sports Stadium in Ghana in front of a crowd of 10.000 patrons.
From the moment the Jamaican singer arrived to the airport crowds followed him everywhere at the point he had to stay in the car that brought him to the stadium more than 20 minutes, due to the excitement that surrounded his visit.
Mavado commented:
“Long time mi suppose to reach Africa fi sing fi di people. But nothing before time. It was a great experience and I felt so at home there. Ghana reminded me so much of Jamaica, I loved it.”
Born David Constantine Brooks, Mavado flanked by Ghanaian Dancehall great, Samini, said Ghana comes to him as home because he is an African – and he is an African because of his forefathers. He also says he considering moving to Africa, in which case he won’t be the first.
But right now he’s busy with his tour and new label and scoring big inna USA : he has several hot tunes with extensive airplay all over the world and Ne-Yo’s remix version of Mavado’s hit single “I Know You Want Me” could be the biggest dancehall hit song of 2011, reasons enough to believe Mavado & Ne-Yo will soon shoot the official video for the song in NYC.
