Tune in to the MOBO Awards This Weekend!
The prestigious UK-based MOBO Awards will broadcast live form the UK on Sunday December 5th, 2021 at 8pm UK time (3pm EST) from Coventry Building Society Arena.
The event will be hosted by Leigh-Anne Pinnock and Munya Chawawa and will see nominees awarded in categories such as Song of The Year, Best Grime Act, Best Newcomer and Best Reggae Act.
The Best Reggae Act category lists Spice, Lila Ike, Popcaan, Sean Paul, Shenseea and Skillibeng as nominees.
Both Sean Paul and Popcaan already won at previous editions of the Award, Sean PAul in. 2013 and Unruly Popcaan in 2016.
Dancehall artistes packed this year’s MOBO nominations for the reggae category.
Six Jamaicans have been nominated for Best Reggae Act by the Music Of Black Origins, MOBO, Awards but this year nominees generated some controversy.
Some Jamaicans are not pleased that the awards celebration has mixed up reggae with dancehall for a reggae award, since Lila Ike is a reggae Artist but the other names Spice, Popcaan, Sean Paul, Shenseea, and Skillibeng belong to the dancehall genre.
The British-based awards, published the nominations and hundreds of comments and retweets called out Mobo awards for the grave error.
Among some of the comments, one commenter also pointed out a long list of young artists who could have made the reggae cut, including Chronixx, Sevana, Runkus, Kabaka Pyramid, Jaz Elise, Jesse Royal, Protoje, among others.
While awaiting for Mobo Awards night 2021 next Sunday December 5th check the full list of artists nominated.
International audiences can watch the awards presentation live on YouTube and fans within the UK can watch / listen via BBC. BBC 1Xtra will cover post-show coverage on Monday December 6th.
