Nick Cannon has been spending a lot of time in Jamaica last year were he has been filming in vest of director, actor and producer the movie “King Of The Dancehall” which includes a stellar line up of actors.
Nick Cannon directs and stars in this high-energy musical drama about a young man from Brooklyn who gets caught up in the vibrant Kingston music scene during a visit to Jamaica.
The movie tells the story of a young man from Brooklyn, New York who gets into Jamaica trying to scheme some ganja deal to cover up the expenses to help his mom and while there he gets caught up with the Jamaican dancehall scene.
Featuring popular music artists like Collie Buddz, Burrington Levi, Beenie Man, Ky-Mani Marley, Busta Rhymes and veteran actors like Whoopy Goldberg as well as Nick Cannon himself in the role of Tarzan, the movie pays also homage to legendary Jamaican artists Beenie Man & Vybz Kartel, both very influential in the movie, with Beenie also acting in it.
Vybz Kartel‘s latest studio album is titled “King Of The Dancehall” and as Bounty himself once said, check it out here if you missed it, Vybz Kartel is no doubt the King of Dancehall of our time, beside his incarceration.
Beenie Man has been at times crowned as King and has enough good hit songs delivered during the years to deserve the title.

The movie made his world premiere this past September at the Toronto Music Festival. King Of The Dancehall is clearly inspired by the vibrant culture of Jamaica to which it pays homage since Cannon reveals he was taken away by the spirit of the people and the culture but was overall the athletic and energetic style of the dances that inspired him to do the movie. He asked himself
‘Why has there never been a mainstream film to capture this world — the romance and the sexiness?’”
It’s not easy to capture the true essence of the dances and to help him he linked famed choreographer Jae Blaze, who has worked with the likes of Rihanna and trained him many hours to learn the moves.
Sitting down with The Breakfast Club in a recent interview, Nick Cannon explains how important Kartel role is in the movie, it has been Kartel that helped him writing the whole movie script.
