Patta & Clarks Shoes Celebrate Jamaican Culture With New Iconic Desert Trek Model

Jamaicans love to own some Clarks Original Shoes and finally the cultural importance of the shoes brand known as Clarks Originals in the island of Jamaica has been acknowledged by the brand via the new Patta collaboration.

As celebrations for the history of the brand there is also an exclusive collaboration with Patta and Clarks that focuses on the Desert Trek model.

For Amsterdam’s Patta co-founder Guillaume Schmidt, raising awareness surrounding Jamaica’s role in endorsing that particular style was an important element.

The cultural history of Clarks Originals, the British footwear firm that was founded over 200 years ago, is illustrated by the way the brand has been embraced in Jamaican music through the works of incarcerated World Boss Vybz Kartel, Popcaan, and Gaza Slim in the 2010 recording of “Clarks”, watch the official music video posted below.

The Kartel’s song  ‘Clarks’, Gaza General has been once again ‘Up To The Time’, boasted to the world about the popularity of the British shoe in Jamaica, particularly the Desert Model and how Clarks Originals have become synonymous of stylish and comfy shoes that last a lifetime. The brans saw a serious and constant increase on sales in Jamaica since.

The brand rarely requires any introduction, and the Desert Trek boot is one of the most iconic styles in production. Joining with the Dutch firm Patta, Clarks has restyle the popular the boot, known in Jamaica as the “Bank Robber” for its “trekman” logo,into two new fresh variations with the styles inspired by the everyday, “boastful” approach to life of Jamaicans.

Patta co -founder Guillaume Schmid was interested in involving Jamaica’s endorsement for the heritage style, saying that he felt people were not sufficiently aware of the island’s role regarding the brand Clarks.

The connection with Jamaican culture and the island’s people is one of the reasons that “the shoe is still hot,” he added. Patta has tried to capture the love and cultural relevance of the shoe through photographs by Stacii Samidin who shot the collection’s look book in Kingston.

The new designs are available in  crispy white and black colours, with butter-soft leather, patent leather side panels and contrast stitching for a more rudeboy ska and punk feel.

The new Patta x Clarks Originals Desert Trek has been available at Patta London, Amsterdam and online as well as through various retailers at the end of August 2019.
