Let’s catch up with some of the major reggae and dancehall music events and news from the end of May 2012 to the beginning of June 2012.
Leroy Russell, aka Tommy Lee , 23 , that hails from Flankers community in St James, was recently featured on the Jamaican Observer for his upcoming mixtape and for his latest accomplishments as a young artist.
Beside the mixtape’s project Tommy Lee says he is looking forward to gigs in Europe and the Caribbean this month. The mixtape is scheduled to be released this summer and will feature songs for different labels.
“I’m really happy with the direction my career is heading cause I have placed my all into it,” Lee told Jamaica Observer. “I am a freshman in the game, so there is lots more for me to learn.”
A lot of ears and eyes on Mr Tommy Lee. As for Popcaan, that in a bunch of months escalated to notoriety, Tommy Lee‘s talent and style didn’t go unnoticed with the fellows at Large Up. Deva Bratt is reported being arrested again for sexual assault.
Is not the first time for the former Portmore Empire‘s artist that was already involved in another sexual offense charge. Bratt, whose real name is Sheldon Smith, was arrested last week and charged with indecent assault and assault occasioning bodily harm of two females.
Both ladies filed a police report at the Bridgeport police station. Deva Bratt was freed of a charge of carnal abuse in November last year, following an incident in 2008 involving a minor. The deejay’s camp is expected to release a statement some time soon, addressing the incident. Deva Bratt is schedule to appear in the Spanish Town RM Court on June 12 to answer the charges.
Multiple world record holder Usain Bolt was also involved in a minor motor vehicle accident in Half-Way-Tree, St. Andrewearlier last Friday morning, after 5:00am.
The global sprinting star was on his way home from a popular party when he had the accident. Asafa Powell was also at the scene of the accident, but he was in another car.
Information on what led to the crash is unknown however several photographs show that the front end of a BMW motorcar driven by Bolt suffered damage. Luckily Bolt escaped serious injury when he crashed his motorcar.
This is the second accident in recent years that Bolt has been involved in. In 2009 he crashed his BMW M3 into a ditch in the vicinity of the Vineyards Toll Plaza along Highway 2000. The car flipped a few times before landing upside down, but the Olympic and World Champion star suffered only minor injuries to his feet.
Reggae Sumfest 2012 edition will take place from July 15-21 at Catherine Hall in Montego Bay, St. James and will feature several past and present Dancehall / Reggae megastars in the line up.
One of the headliners of this year performance is Grammy-winning Reggae singer, Damian ‘Junior Gong Zilla Marley, who will be showcasing his catalogue of recent smash hits such as Affairs of the Heart and Set Up Shop.
Additionally, legendary Reggae band, Third Worldwill hit the Reggae Sumfest stageto perform many of their classics. Reggae stars Chris Martin, Tarrus Riley and I-Octane,are also schedule to perform.
Dancehall artist Tifa is the sole female artist feature for the Rick Ross Best of Summer concert which takes place on June 16 at the UDC Car Park in New Kingston.
The artist, known for hits including Dash Out, Matie Wine, Spell it Out, Certified Diva and Wedding Chapel, promised her fans an explosive upcoming performance.
“We have something planned especially for the fans so they can look out for that. Just come to the show and expect to be entertained”, Tifa reveled.
