Vybz Kartel’s Freedom Street, his first live concert in more than 13 years, was an epic show and, as Kartel wrote shortly after, in his IG account, IT WAS A SUCCESS!!!
Freedom Street unfolded in just 5 months, and it has been an epic celebration of the World Boss career and all the careers of all the other artists he brought to stardom before going to jail and even during his whole stay in prison.
Freedom Street has been a huge gift to Kartel’s loyal fan base, with people coming in from all over the places to celebrate Addi’s freedom and his stellar career that was never tamed by his long incarceration.
Fans could not believe their own eyes and some could not contain their emotions, when finally Kartel came out on stage from a undergrounds lift and stood still, taking it all in for few minutes, dressed to the nines!
Freedom Street was everything a real gaza fan could ask for and even more!!! The concert was attended by more than 40000 patrons ( more or less numbers are still coming in ), cashing in. more than 14 millions dollars of revenue from the live concert and almost 4, 5 millions dollars from the stream alone!
If this is not magic! And magic happened on that stage with Kartel delivering on the Freedom Street’s stage for more than 3 hours with a great medley of his biggest old and new songs during the first segment of the show impressing the mesmerized audience that could not get enough and sang along the whole show.
There has been several iconic moments during the Freedom Street concert, that made history already, when the whole Empire ( few only missing ) re-united that was unbelievable to the eyes and hears. Jah Vinci, Sheba, Indu, Poppi, Shawn Storm all blazed the stage at same point even filling in Kartel’s verses. Sheba arrived late on stage, so Popcaan and Chronic Law.
Apparently their entourage were too big and entry got delayed from some big pieces of the show that resented a bit of that. Kartel had to call the artists names and make sure they were all in.
Now one of the main thing everybody is talking about is Popcaan telling Skatta Burrell ( one of the show’s producer ) to go suck ya mother, and Chronic Law adding when his turn to be onstage came including Joe Bogandovich. A big thing that. A lot of chat around the incident, apparently was not the first time Popcaan already say something against Skatta, but this time to add to the injury was the international audience and the use of curse words that allegedly had the show cut short and a lot of stuff going on stage and beyond.
The stage at some point was so hectic that Kartel himself had to ask to clear the stage several times, asking for just the artists to be on it. If rumors are true there have also some boxing going on between the parties involved,
While the show was in full effect the Skatta Law Boss Popcaan accident was firing up the whole time in the background Shawn Storm tried to save it bringing Poppi back to his verse but the craziness kept going on in the background.
Vybz Kartel was amazing during the whole live concert keeping his composure and standing up on stage at that point clad in a Millenium blue jersey that everybody loved.
As everybody loved Spice performance, she killed it, as usual, delivering a great show and bubbling all over Vybz Kartel, while Sidem was watching and laughing it out. She complimented Spice and was elated to be acknowledged by the Queen of Dancehall Music. Fireworks. Spice rang in the new year with Kartel on stage and it was an explosion of colors and emotions. A lot of epic moments, like when Shatta Wale performed and kneeled down to Kartel letting him know he is bigger than life in Africa.
Skillibeng, Savage, Sparta, Ishawna, Popcaan, the dancer, the deejays, and special mention to Shawn Storm for being on his top form, Bounty Killer blessed the stage too and that was another legendary moment in itself, for the crowd and Kartel himself.
