Dancehall artist Tommy Lee Sparta, real name Leroy Russell, pleaded guilty this past Wednesday to illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition and was sentenced to three years in prison.
The Jamaican recording artist appeared before the High Court Division of the Gun Court and was represented by Queens Counsel Tom Tavares Finson, which is also Vybz Kartel’s lawyer, and Donahue Martin.
Sparta received a three-year sentence for the illegal possession of a firearm charge, and ammunition charge.
Considering that the sentencing guidelines for illegal possession of firearm charges typically run between 10 to 15 years, 3 years is a totally better look. Luckily a number of mitigating factors worked in Tommy Lee Sparta’s favor.

Tommy Lee has been detained since December 14 2020 when a Toyota X car he was traveling in Holborn Road, in St Andrew was intercepted and stopped by the police.
Sparta was found with a firearm and 18 rounds of ammunitions.
The Jamaican deejay has been detained since and the three months he already spent in jail will be counted toward the current sentence.
Sparta has had several run-ins with the law over the last six years. In 2014 the Uncle Demon deejay was arrested and charged with lottery scamming-related offense after police raided a house in the Kingston 5 area that was believed to have been occupied by the entertainer and a laptop reportedly belonging to the deejay was seized after it was said to have been found with personal information of several United States residents.
The artist was, however, later freed, but the police kept going after him for every given reason and arrested him and detained him in several occasions.
