Reggae Sumfest 2022 Spice, Shenseea, Ishawna, Skeng, Alkaline Video Highlights

Reggae Sumfest 2022 is over, but the echoes are still in the air just few days after the exciting Montego Bay’s staging.

Patrons couldn’t be more excited as they packed the Catherine Hall venue to assist the live performances of their favorite artists this past  week-end of July.

This is the biggest live stage in Jamaica, a very special place for reggae and dancehall music, a big moment for all the artists and their fans, and also for the media, finally all mingling together in the summer heat after 2 years of pandemic, restrictions and zero live concerts.

How many special moments, memories, legendary live performances have been guested by this event, that dates back back to 1993 and hosted so many artists and fans, many international fans too, visiting Jamaica to attend the festival from all over the world.

Reggae Sumfest is a legendary live stage very important in every artist’s career, a major landmark, no matter if newcomers or already popular.

The festival returned this year after 2 years of stop, on July 22nd and 23rd and the full show was available for the first time in full global streaming, and even if this year edition lost its original format of Dancehall night on Night One and Reggae Night on night two, (this year it was more mixed up), it remains a very impactful stage where the a lot of female artists made a splash this year!

As the previous stagings, this edition has no doubt served several history-making moments once again, as it paid tribute to dancehall heavy-hitter and icon music producer Dave Kelly and Jamaican dancehall artist Spice, often dubbed the Queen of dancehall music, she was finally officially crowned “Queen of the Dancehall” during her live on Sumfest stage.

TRIBUTE TO DAVE KELLY REGGAE SUMFEST 2022

As for music producer Dave Kelly his tireless efforts and genuine love for the genre have not gone unnoticed on Beenie Man, who recently shared that he had planned an exceptional Reggae Sumfest performance in honor of Kelly’s contribution to dancehall music.

The special segment was called the Madhouse Tribute in honor Kelly’s contribution to the growth of dancehall.

Even if you did not attend in person and did not tune in the live streaming, you can still enjoy the legendary show and its highlights.

Spice’s Performance

Spice delivered a very vibrant and energetic performance that left her fans raving, dressed like an astronaut she deliver a great set and Reggae Sumfest delivered to Spice the crown and flowers for her two-decade career contributions to dancehall music, as well as helping to raise Jamaica’s profile worldwide.

Spice was crowned officially “As a Queen of stage and Queen of Dancehall, we are here to crown you tonight,”

by Miss Kitty and Downsound Entertainment Ceo Joe Bogdanovich, whom came out with a silver crystal crown to bestow on Spice.

The title of The Queen of Dancehall has been in contention for a minute as Lady Saw, that was first crowned Queen of Dancehall in 2012, has been holding to the title since.

After receiving her new title the undiscussed Queen of the dancehall Spice, real name Grace Hamilton, continued her performance and closed it with her hit “Needle Eye.”

During her Reggae Sumfest live Spice also made the big announcement that, just a year after her first album was released “10” ( stream it here), she is dropping her sophomore album “Emancipated” on August 19.

Skeng’s Performance

Recording artist Skeng put step on the Reggae Sumfest stage for the first time and was the closing act of the show.

He delivered some of his most popular hits like  “Gvman Shift,” “Brrp,” “Street Cred,” and more of his grimy tunes,  His  set was rushed due to the event being behind schedule, and Skeng went on the stage around 8 am.

His performance was well perceived by his fans with many bragging on social medias that it never happened in the history of Reggae Sumfest that such a young artist could had the honor of closing the show, which he did.

Skeng is an upcoming recording artist that keep raking in millions of video streams and is also known for being one of the most fast rising and names in dancehall music in Jamaica .

Shenseea Performance

Meanwhile, Dancehall’s own sensation Shenseea also touched on the Sumfest stage for the first time, and she delivered the best show, full of sex appeal and a craaazy delivery, showing to mesmerized fans and critics alike for how much she has grown and how big of entertainer and stage performer she has become.

Shensi  was scheduled to perform at Reggae Sumfest back in 2019, before the pandemic, but her manager had pulled her performance at the last minute as the price was not right.

During her set Shenseea delivered hits upon hits from her ‘Alpha’ album and some of her older songs, dressed in a sexy green body suit this incredible artist put her full talent and beauty on display to the fullest.

In the middle of her set, she stopped to praise and pay her respects to her manager Romeich Major who discovered her and launched to stardom with a featuring in Vybz Kartel “Loodi” and been behind her career’s since her debut five years ago.

Shenseea’s has been crowned with the best performance for a female entertainer for the night, trending both in the United States and Jamaica.

Ishawna Performance

Ishawna delivered a controversial performance during night one of Reggae Sumfest, where she performed her single “Equal Rights” and creating even more controversy for her actions on stage.

The female Jamaican singer/deejay upsets several patrons with her set and especially War Lord Bounty Killer, who walked out of the event while she was performing and he announced already he is releasing a Ishawna’s diss song.

Ishawna released her tune “Equal Rights” back in 2017 and Bounty Killer immediately at that time expressed his disapproval for the song. Bounty  never agreed with Ishawna promoting men giving women oral sex, still a taboo in Jamaica, and he had made it known.

“Equal Rights” is a remix of Ed Sheeran’s “Shape of You,” and it is the reason for her successful recent collaboration with Ed Sheeran, “Brace It”, click here to listen and find out the whole story behind this unusual collaboration.

During her performance, Ishawna displayed big cutout figures of Bounty Killer, Jamaica’s Prime Minister Andrew Holness, and Health Minister Dr. Christopher Tufton, which were all part of her set and stayed on stage with her. The cutouts were covered with a black cloth which she removed individually during her set.

While performing Ishawna put her body on the cutout of Bounty’s face, symbolically receiving oral sex from dancehall legend. While singing about wanting to be sucked out like a ‘bag juice’, Ishawna put Bounty’s cutout on the ground and went close to his face while patting her hidden parts.

Even the Jamaica Observer, reported that the Alliance General immediately left the event while Ishawna show continued. Bounty already took the stage earlier during the segment for Dave Kelly’s tribute.
