Vybz Kartel Celebrates 10 Years of Viking (Vybz Is King) With Deluxe Reissue

Vybz Kartel is celebrating a defining moment in his career with the 10th anniversary reissue of his landmark album Viking (Vybz Is King), now released as a deluxe edition featuring seven brand-new tracks.

The project arrived today, Friday, January 31, reinforcing the album’s long-standing influence while signaling a bold new chapter for the undisputed King of the Dancehall.

Originally released in 2015, Viking (Vybz Is King) quickly established itself as a fan favorite, praised for its lyrical sharpness, cultural relevance, and fearless confidence. Ten years later, this album remains a cornerstone of modern dancehall. The original 2015 version of Viking (Vybz Is King) is already streaming on our site since it came out, giving fans continued access to the era-defining project while now pairing it with fresh material from the deluxe reissue.

The anniversary release arrives at a particularly pivotal time. It comes in the run-up to the 2025 Grammy Awards, where Kartel has earned a nomination for his Ep Party With Me—an achievement many view as long overdue. The reissue also follows a historic homecoming concert in Kingston, Jamaica, marking Kartel’s return to the stage after his release from prison last July. His previous life sentence for  was overturned on appeal earlier in 2024, clearing the way for his full creative and public return.

All seven new tracks featured on the deluxe edition of Viking (Vybz Is King) were recorded over recent months following Kartel’s release, making them the first newly recorded songs he has created outside of prison in more than a decade. Set against the backdrop of Miami, the “God Is The Greatest” video captures a historic reunion as the Worl’ Boss celebrates his freedom (and his green card) alongside DJ Khaled, Bounty Killer, Skatta Burrell and other notable guests, creating a rare and symbolic gathering of kings. “God Is The Greatest” is a positive song rooted in gratitude, survival, and redemption. The song reads like a testimony: Worl’ Boss experienced the blessings first hand, he is acknowledging divine protection through hardship, celebrating life after struggle, and choosing love over resentment. This track reminding listeners that regardless of what they are facing, blessings still exist all around us.

In a statement, Kartel described the album as a celebration of multiple milestones, from recognizing the lasting impact of Viking a decade on to creating new music for the first time since his release. He also emphasized the significance of reuniting with longtime collaborators, including his day-one producer TJ Records and engineers Ricard “RedBoom” Reid and Dominic “Troublemekka” McDonald.

“It’s a full circle moment,” he said. “Like I said on the first track, ‘God Is The Greatest.’”
