Breaking News: Bob Marley’s Grandson Jo Mersa Marley Dies At Age 31

Some terrible and sad news started circulating today regarding the death of Jo Mersa Marley, Bob Marley’s grandson and Stephen Marley’s son, leaving the entire reggae dancehall community in shock and heartbroken!

Jamaican musician and singer Jo Mersa Marley, real name Joseph Mersa Marley, has passed away at the young age of 31 years old.

His unresponsive body was found inside a car, and while he suffered of asthma most of his life, the cause of death have not been shared yet, even if everything is pointing out to a asthma attack that could have causes a sudden heart attack.

News of his death have been confirmed from a representative of the Marley’s family to Rolling Stone, but again the official cause of death was not yet reveled.

Jo passed away today, on December 27, but at the time of this writing the location and circumstances surrounding his death are still unclear.

After news of Jo Mersa’s sudden death went viral tributes from all over the world started pouring in all over social medias, for this young lion that is survived by his young wife, Qiara, and his little daughter, Sunshine.

Jo Mersa was born on March 1991, in Kingston, Jamaica where he attended school until the age of 11, when he moved to Miami, Florida, attending the Palmetto High School and later on the Miami Dade College.



Being the son of Stephen and a Marley his whole life since a very young age had been immersed into music and surrounded by music, touching the stage for the first time when he was still very young, sharing the stage with his father Stephen Marley, Ziggy Marley and Cedella Marley of the legendary Melody Makers.

Jo Mersa’s first music single came out in 2010 when he released “My Girl” a collaboration with his cousin Daniel Bambaata.

But he did not drop any new music until after graduating in studio engineering in 2014, when he debuted his single  titled “Comfortable”, off The Set Up Shop Vol 1 from Ghetto Youths International.

From there on he crafted his style and lyrics in a crescendo with several live appearances on stage with his father and uncles, and he recorded a song with his dad that has been featured on Stephen Marley’s “Revelation Part 2 The fruit Of Life”, their collaboration song is titled “Revelation Party”.

In 2021 Jo Mersa Marley dropped what now has became his last and prophetical project EP, titled ‘Eternal”, where he appeared with others Jamaican reggae artists like Kabaka Pyramid, Black Am I, Busy Signal and more, and Eternal he will be, talking to us via his music forever.

Upon the release of his “Eternal” EP Jo Mersa Marley teamed up with Bashment, Disco Neil and Silent Addy and dropped the Eternal visual mixtape project posted posted below in full.

It was indeed a cool project following Jo Mersa from morning till evening around and about Miami with the songs from the EP being performed during the recording. Watch it below.
