Prominent Jamaican artists Vybz Kartel, Buju Banton, Busy Signal weren’t at this year Reggae Sumfest 2012 in Montego Bay Jamaica. Mavado wasn’t there neither.

Even with these major artists names missing, this year edition was one of the best Dancehall Night of the show in many years and – beside some minor delays between the sets and the female artists being scheduled too early, everything was displaying the high quality level of this legendary stage that this year was filled with a lot of new stars.

The females artists were all given very early performance times, they were all before 11pm, apart from that, all of them Tifa, Stacious, Spice did a great job!

On a stage that is a milestone in many artists career most of them delivered solid performances with some notable standouts from Kiprich, Konshens, Popcaan, Beenie Man, Spice, Bounty Killer, I-Octane, Khago…

Jamaican artist Kiprich represented to the fullest, perfectly tuned in from the first second he appeared on stage to the the last. Kippo had a lot to say and he said it in his unique special way while he delivered is old and new hits, hypnotizing the crowd!

When the time for Konshens live show came…Konshens’ growth and maturity, his evolution as an artists, his consistency and all his talent was all evident and well displayed on stage.

This was Konshens’ fourth time performing at the world renown festival. The patrons were all feeling the Subkonshus deejay as he kept delivering hit after hit including “Realest Song,” “Gal A Bubble,” and “Stop Sign.

“My objective is always to just come and deliver a good show because that’s what people pay their hard earned money for, they come to see me perform and I in return entertain them”- he seh.

He opened up with his hit “Do Sumn” and went on “Gal Dem A Talk.”

At a point the artist called on stage 20 back up dancers for his new single Stop Sign.

But the real surprise of the night was the huge response from the crowd that artist Tommy Lee Sparta experienced.

The young Dancehall gothic artist stepped out in his native Montego Bay saying:

“Gaza man crazy, no wi insane,” and the crowd went wild. He didn’t forget the World Boss as he also held Teacha’s Book “The Voice Of The Jamaican Ghetto” in his hand, waving it to the crowd.

Of course Bounty Killer, Beenie Man, I-Octane, who took last year’s show, delivered a solid set bringing the stage on fire. I-Octane as usual had torches, firecrackers, lighters going crazy when he took the stage. “Lose A Friend”, “Nuh Love Inna Dem”, “Mama”, “You Alone” and “Blood Shed” were some of the songs he used to keep the fire burning throughout his live performance on the famed Jamaican’s summer stage.

Also A list performers like Spice, Romain Virgo, Khago and Zamunda, were all stars.

Lady Saw became the first female Dancehall artist to be honored at Reggae Sumfest 2012. This international and hard working unique artist was given a well deserved recognition for her contribution to Jamaican music.

Fans screamed, shouted and went wild as the announcement was made that the ‘Dancehall Emperor’ Shabba Ranks would be next on stage and also for the return of American R&B sensation, R Kelly to Jamaican soil.

For Shabba Ranks was also a big return after an 11 year absence from the local scene.

Fans were delight in Montego Bay! They got to witness stellar performances from both artists as well as a slew of other acts that graced the Sumfest stage in the early hours of Saturday morning.

Shabba Ranks performed alongside beautiful Cherine Anderson and delivered a really memorable performance.

Shabba Ranks was also honored on Friday night. He thanked the organizers for the honor and also his wife, Michelle, who he called on stage.

“She is the reason for my peace of mind and tranquility,” Shabba Ranks said. “She mek mi look so good. Come to mi, baby.”

The patrons, the artists, the organizers, the international stars and audience, with R Kelly making it up to his absence of last year and delivering an outstanding performance.

The R&B King arrived about an hour late for his performance, but his presence instantly cheered up the patrons.Maaad vibes and another legendary and positive Reggae Sumfest to remember for years!
