Buju banton appeal dismissed and new appeal june 2012



Jamaican Reggae Superstar and Grammy Winner Buju Banton fight for freedom is not over. After last Thursday disappointing news of his appeal being rejected and the reconfirmed sentence to 10 years in federal prison, his lawyer David Markus, says he will be seeking a new trial within the next month.

“We will file the application for a new trial sometime in the next 30 days” said Buju’s lawyer.If granted, this would be Buju Banton’s third trial after the first one ended in a mistrial and the second one ended in a conviction.

Buju Banton’s appeal was dismissed by a federal judge just few days ago, on June 21.

Itall happened in Georgia, in the 11th Circuit where a  court of appeal handed down the ruling this past Thursday. The Appeal court agreed  with last year jury’s decision to convict the Grammy winner .

Jamaican star Buju Banton, real name Mark Myrie, was convicted in a Florida Federal Court on February 2011 for drug trafficking charges including conspiracy to distribute cocaine.This latest development confirmed the sentence to 10 years in a federal prison. He could be released in 7 years on good behavior.
