Vybz Kartel’s Lead Attorney Isat Buchanan Interview OnStage TV With Winford Williams

Vybz Kartel triumphant victory at the UK Privy Council, that quashed the Jamaican superstar and co-accused murder conviction and sentence is the most talked thing in his homeland Jamaica.

In the few weeks since the UK Privy Council deliberation on the longest trial in Jamaican history, considering Vybz Kartel’s trial lasted more than 64 days, a lot of speculations and hypothesis came out on which scenarios to aspect in the future weeks and months regarding Vybz Kartel’s and co-accused freedom.

Isat Buchanan, Vybz Kartel’s lead attorney, and also the man of the hour, given his hard work on the case and great skills showed during the whole proceedings, set down with popular Jamaican TV host Winford William during the latest episode of the ever trending OnStage show.

Vybz Kartel hired Isat Buchanan to represent him before the Privy Council in the UK in 2020. Maybe not all Vybz Kartel’s fans know that Isat Buchanan, who is the son of Reggae Music legend Big Youth, real name Manley Buchanan, also has a his own very particular story. He was jailed for 10 years in the United States, before becoming a lawyer. Remember he was also recently suspended for citing Vybz Kartel’s own lyrics against the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Paula Llewellyn, suspension that, has everything else, he was still able to overcome and have finally Vybz Kartel conviction quashed representing him & winning the appeal.

Sitting down with Winford Williams OnStage Isat breaks it down what to aspect and what’s going to happen now.

While the UK Privy Council quashed and voided the previous conviction it also remanded to the Jamaican Court system to decide if re-trial or free the men. And also remember since the conviction does not stand anymore Kartel and his co-defendant could be entitled to receive money as a compensations for all their troubles so far.

He explains how Kartel was able to have an expedited hearing at the UK Supreme Court because of his bad health conditions which are currently still there and now the courts in Jamaica have the mandate to act quickly, swiftly with no delay that would be otherwise considered a breach of the current constitution.

When talking about his client, that he saw recently, Isat says Addi’s stress level went much down, since now there is no more a murder conviction of 35 years before parole pending over his head. He is confident he will be soon out on bail.

In terms of time, when the final Vybz Kartel’s freedom will come he can’t exactly give a time frame yet, because they are still waiting for the UK Privy Council to send the over the new appeal ruling to the Jamaican courts and when then happens things will take a swift speed from there.
