One of the latest Vybz Kartel & Gaza Slim new reggae dancehall singles, “Reparation” was banned from the airwaves shortly after it was released, this past Wednesday.
It’s not the first time that World Boss Vybz Kartel has one of his songs banned from the radio.
It happened already for “Ramping Shop”, “Last Man Standing” and “Get Wild”.
Also during Black Month History, last year, his music was banned from some New York radios, for the controversy sparkled from his bleaching habits.
Vybz Kartel’s music was also banned in Guyana, following a no show from the artist to a big stage in the summer.
Jamaica Broadcasting Commission has banned the song “Reparation” from the airwaves and a radio disk jock was also suspended for playing it because is said it contains material not fit for airplay.
The new single doesn’t preach extreme sex or guns code. “Reparation” speaks about the ongoing controversies that have taken place in the latest months in Jamaica, including the Lotto scam, which triggered a number of excellent arrests as the one of the deputy major of Montego Bay.
The tune is produced by Adidjahiem Records, Kartel’s own imprinting, features one of his protege and prodigy, Gaza Slim, real name Vanessa Saddler, also known as Vanessa Bling, whom has been featured in many Kartel’s songs.
Reparation is really one of their best tunes of 2012, a really catchy song with social commentary, and please don’t worry if you like it, doesn’t mean you’re a scammer.
One thing is to sing about stuff and another is doing stuff and to ban the song is surely not the solution.
Considering all the explicit & super explicit songs that don’t get banned or censored in Jamaica, to ban a songs that talks about Reparation for the poor people, which are victims of all sort of injustices in poor and often cruel Jamrock is not the solution.
While “Reparation” has been banned in Jamaica it’s available on Apple Music and you can get it clicking on the banner on this page.
