Jamaican Star Buju Banton Nominated For Two IRAWMA Awards

IRAWMA AWARDS 2012buju banton nominated for two IRAWMA awards

Reggae Superstar Buju Banton, whom is currently serving a ten years sentence in a Florida’s jail, received two nominations for the upcoming 31st annual International Reggae and World Music Awards (IRAWMA), scheduled to take place on July 5 in Chicago, Illinois.

Banton, born Mark Myrie, cops the nomination for Best Song for his critically acclaimed collaboration “Jah Army” featuring Damian “Junior Gong” Marley and Stephen Marley.

Buju also received a nomination for Concert of the Year for his ‘Before The Dawn’ concert, hosted in Miami in January 2011.

“We again congratulate Buju Banton on his nominations in the 31st IRAWMA,” says Ephraim Martin of Martin’s International, the producers of the long running event.

Buju was and is still a messenger for the people in his own right. History shows and tells us, that just about all great leaders, messengers and freedom fighters, who ended up in jail or prison at some point, returned to be better leaders.”

Martin adds,

Buju, we encourage you to stay strong and not to be discouraged. The unknown reason(s) you are where you are will be revealed to the world in a powerful manner, in the years to come!

Buju’s son Markus Myrie will be attending the awards on behalf of his father.
