Vybz Kartel and his co-accused received an official communication from the Appeal Court.
Jamaica’s Court Of Appeal send out a letter to Vybz Kartel’s and co-accused legal team with updates regarding the appeal’s verdict.
Vybz Kartel made it known via social media he wanted nothing more but to be home in time for Christmas this year and now the panel of the three Appeal judges just wrote that the final verdict is in “advance stage”.
Finally after 16 months of waiting for the verdict the court will be handling down the judgement in short order.
The new communication could mean Vybz Kartel’s appeal’s verdict could be ready in a matter of just few weeks or few months.
The communication came in after the lead Kartel’s attorney Tom Taveres Finson sent a formal letter to the court some time ago inquiring on the state of the case.
The court responded to the request writing back to Taveres Finson they are close to a final decision, adding that the attorneys of the part involved in the case will be notify of the final verdict before it will be released to the public.
“‘as soon as it (the appeal) is ready and the court has set a delivery date, all parties will be duly notified.’”
There are now new hopes for a date in December Valerie-Neita Robertson, who represents Palmer, commented
“If we are lucky, we will get it for December. They (the court) probably go up to the 20th of December and then they close for the Christmas occasion.
If so, I expect it in the middle of January. So this is very good news. I am looking forward to it. When you work hard on a matter, which we did, we are eager to hear the results,” she said.
While the news of the advance stage finally came in the letter does not indicate any time frame or final date but hints that we could aspect a verdict to come in soon.
The Appeal Court of Jamaica has been reviewing Vybz Kartel’s and co-accused case since July 2018, when after a week of debate before the court both defense and prosecutions presented their arguments to the court.
Kartel’s defense argued how police tampered evidence in their custody like photos, messages and other stuff.
Vybz Kartel and co-accused had been prior sentenced to life in prison without parole in 2014.
