VP Records Stages Free Concert at Central Park Summer Stage NYC

Hip-hop‘s ties to the Jamaican sound system tradition of the 1960s are well established – via the early experiments of Jamaican expat Clive “Kool Herc” Campbell in the South Bronx.

The cultural conversation between Jamaica and New York continued through the decades, spawning a New York reggae scene that launched multiple careers and countless street music anthems, many breaking through in the 1990s, when mainstream radio and the major labels saw the synthesis of hip-hop and dancehall as a new form of cutting edge, urban music.

VP Records celebrates this distinctly creative era in New York’s musical culture with a FREE concert featuring some of the creators of those anthemic hits.

Dancehall Meets Hip Hop 90s stars: Slick Rick, Wayne Wonder, Shinehead, Red Fox and Lady G with support from DJs Jazzy Joyce and Peter Panic performing at Central Park Summer stage in Manhattan, Saturday, August 13th, gates open at 6pm.

The event is hosted by VJ Ralph McDaniels and Dahved Levy. For more information visit City Parks Foundation.
