Unruly Popcaan is not just a recording dancehall artist anymore, but also an actor, since he got a role in the new movie “The Intent 2: The Come Up”, which is the sequel of the popular British flick “The Intent” that will premiere next month.

Dancehall star Popcaan, that debuted his second studio album “Forever” produced by Mixpak Records, landed a major role in the new movie, playing a thug named Sour Sop, who runs the streets of Kingston, role that Popcaan, real name Andre Jay Sutherland, plays along with famous Jamaican actor Louie ‘Ox’ Rankin.

“The Intent 2: The Come Up” has been shot earlier this year by directors Femi Oyeniran and Nicky Slimting Walker, that landed in Jamaica to shoot a major part of the movie. In the trailer, you can see Popcaan at a party with one of the film’s stars at Hellshire Beach in Portmore.

Talking in a recent interview about the project Walker said that Popcaan is a talented actor who has a promising future in the film industry because he is a natural and after seeing him in action it’s hard to think this is the Jamaican artist first experience in a movie.

The first part of The Intent quickly became a modern classic and expectations are very high also for The Intent 2 that building on the previous elements of success is even more charged and with a intense plot. PLOT

Jay has big dreams; but his ambitions are crippled by his allegiance to both his crew and Hackney crime boss Beverley (Sharon Duncan-Brewster).

Jay sets about laying the foundations for his own organized crime ring with the help of Mustafa (Adam Deacon).

Things are going well until Beverley discovers his disloyalty, and an ill-fated robbery in North London and a trip to Jamaica tears the crew apart.

All the while, their actions are being monitored by an undercover Met Police officer Gunz (Dylan Duffus), who has been deployed to integrate himself into the crew.

Before the T.I.C and the Clappers crews were formed, the members worked for a ruthless Yardie boss, Beverly. One of the boys, Jay has ambitions to set up on his own.

He has no money, his car keeps getting towed away, every move he makes to get money and lift himself out of the everyday struggle is unsuccessful.

Inspired by his high-flying girlfriend, Selene, he sets about laying the foundations for his own organized crime ring. Things are going seemingly well until he is arrested and Beverley discovers his hidden ambition.

With the same grit, humour and action sequences as its’ predecessor, ‘THE COME UP’ promises to follow ‘THE INTENT’ in becoming an instant cult classic but with international reach. Released in association with Island Records.
